Male sex toys are hardly a new invention — in ancient China, people apparently fashioned the first cock rings from the eyelids of goats — but there has been an explosion in the variety and intensity of toys designed to enhance the experience of solo and partnered pleasure for people with penises.

But with so many types and options, choosing the right one for you can be a pretty tough task. The good news is that we’ve done the handy work for you (pun intended?) and rounded up a list of the 12 best male sex toys.

Pricing guide
The services of Sally Palm may be free, but prices for male sex toys can range from a few bucks for disposable aids to hundreds for devices with more bells and whistles. Each toy will be marked with one of the following:
- $ = under $50
- $$ = $51–$100
- $$$ = $101–$150
- $$$$ = over $150
Best for beginners: Trojan Tantrix Male Pleasure Sleeve
Price: $
This masturbation aid from Trojan (aka the king of condoms) is simple, cheap, and a good pick if you’re new to the sex toy game. For under $10, you’ll get a handy, textured silicon sleeve that you can lube up to add a little spice to your classic self-pleasure sesh.
Best splurge: Arcwave Ion
Price: $$$$
There are a LOT of male masturbators out there, but the Arcwave Ion stands out with its combination of suction and airflow stimulation of the frenulum — the highly sensitive skin under the head of the penis. It’s user friendly and also wins points from reviewers for being quiet, versatile (with 8 pleasure settings), and easy to clean.
Best multi-use: Tenuto Mystery Vibe
Price: $$$$
This jack-of-all-trades delivers on its promise of pleasure with six motors driving vibrators that stimulate the penis, perineum, and — if you’re playing with a female partner — the clitoris and vulva.
It also functions as a cock ring and can be controlled by an app. If you’re looking for an all-in-one toy, the Tenuto Mystery Vibe raises the bar — and everything else. 😏
Best cock ring: Lovehoney Desire Luxury Rechargeable Vibrating Cock Ring
Price: $$
The Lovehoney Desire takes the classic cock ring and makes it high tech by pairing a stretchy silicon circle with a small-but-mighty vibrator. Wear it vibe-up to provide clitoral stimulation to a partner during intercourse, or invert it to pulse against yourself for partnered or solo play.
Best disposable: Tenga Easy Beat Egg
Price: $
These disposable (but also reusable), egg-shaped masturbators are like the wonderballs of sex toys.
They come by the carton and feature 10 different textures for self-love (including a special edition Keith Haring egg for those looking for something a little more ~artistic~). The pattern on the outside of the egg provides clues about what awaits you — just open the wrapper, apply the lube (it’s included), and discover your surprise.
Best male masturbator: Tenga Spinner
Price: $
The Tenga Spinner is another male masturbator that comes in multiple textures and has an internal coil that twists as you use it.
Each Spinner also comes with samples of Tenga’s lube — dubbed “Hole Lotion” — that comes in different varieties like mild (thick and cushiony) to wild (thin, with a bracing hint of menthol). Reviewers love its price point, the way the twisting motion feels, and say it’s easy to clean and use.
Best prostate massager: Svakom Vick Neo
Price: $$$
Prostate massagers can be a little intimidating if you’re just getting into the whole sex toy thing. But this combination prostate/perineum stimulator from Svakom makes them a little more approachable.
It hits the sweet spot(s) with a comfortable and sleek design, a 180-degree flexible head for custom insertion based on your own anatomy, lots of vibration options, and remote control function to avoid the need for awkward reach-arounds (or for partner-controlled play).
Best for couples: Fun Factory Manta
Price: $$$
Get a firm grip on your couples’ sex play with this unique cock ring/vibrator combo. It can slip around the base of your penis during intercourse to essentially turn yourself into a vibrator for your partner.
“[Using this toy with a partner] gives everyone a full range of vibrating pleasure,” says Searah Deysach, a sex educator and owner of Early to Bed, a sex toy store based in Chicago.
Best adjustable: Blush Stay Hard Silicone Loop
Price: $
This inexpensive cock ring doesn’t do Bluetooth, vibrate, or have various textures, but it beats some far pricier products in one key area: it’s incredibly adjustable, so it can essentially fit any size or shape penis.
“Anyone can get just the tension they need and want,” says Tara Struyk, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Kinkly, a sexual education website. “It’s also nice that this ring can be removed safely and easily. Simple products like this often get overlooked, but they can make a big difference.”
Best basic: Fleshlight Pink Lady
Price: $$
A lot of modern masturbators are designed to look discrete — resembling a mini speaker or air purifier rather than a portable orgasm factory. But there’s no pretense with the Pink Lady, which would never be mistaken for anything other than exactly what it is.
It was the first Fleshlight to gain wide popularity, but they now come in more than 40 textures and 80 opening styles.
“The Fleshlight sleeves are akin to real skin — some smooth, some textured, but elastic enough,” says Dainis Graveris, a Certified Sex Educator and Relationship Expert at SexualAlpha. “They do a great job of imitating the likeness and tightness of a real vagina or any orifice of your choice.”
Best with heat: Satisfyer Men Heat Vibration Masturbator
Price: $$
There’s a time and a place for adding ice cubes into foreplay, but — generally speaking — the penis reacts better when you stick it somewhere warm. This pocket plaything has three heat settings with 70 vibration functions.
“Rather than using this toy to stimulate up and down like with other masturbators, the Satisfyer sits over the head of the penis and stimulates through the vibration and heating function,” says Georgia May Budd, a sex toy expert at Adulttoymegastore.
“It can take a while to get used to holding the masturbator in place, as opposed to stroking up and down, but once you get the hang of it this toy is unlike any other.”
Best budget: Adam & Eve Super Stretch Tickler Sleeves
Price: $
Sliding one of these sleeves on can turn your penis into a multi-talented pleasure tool. “Penis sleeves add extra sensation and texture to your penis, making it even more pleasurable for your partner,” says sexologist Marla Renee Stewart of the sexual wellness brand & retailer Lovers. “Plus, they can help with performance issues as the material restricts blood flow to the penis.”
Ready to experiment? This set of seven varied penis sleeves is a perfect fit for a tight budget, starting under $20.
Male sex toys fall into five basic categories, you can count them on the fingers of your hand. Coincidence? We think not.
Cock rings
Also known as penis rings, cock rings wrap tightly around the base of the penis — and sometimes around both testicles, too — to help maintain a harder, longer-lasting erection by restricting blood flow in the shaft. “Rings can also skyrocket climaxes, giving what some [people] describe as the strongest orgasms of their lives,” says sexologist Sadie Allison, founder of sex toy boutique ticklekitty and GoLove.
Male masturbators
Ranging from simple textured pads you hold in your hand to complex machines with multiple orifices, male masturbators are designed to simulate, well, whatever kind of sex you want.
“(Male masturbators) simulate different male experiences from having vaginal sex and anal sex to receiving oral sex,” says Graveris. “They come in different materials, shapes, and textures. You also have an array of manual and automated male masturbators to choose from.”
Prostate massagers
Located between the rectum and the penis, the prostate has been nicknamed the male “P-spot” and can be stimulated via anal sex and sex toys.
Some prostate toys also deliver sensation to the perineum, the area between the anus and the scrotum that’s also the external side of the prostate.
“Men are realizing that the prostate is an erogenous zone and a way to increase pleasure, have multiple orgasms, and not have to worry about staying erect,” says sex toy expert Tiffany Yelverton, founder and “Chief Sexinista” of Entice Me Soirées, Inc. and Sexy Survivors, based in Long Beach, California.
Anal vibrators, dildos, and vibrating plugs are other devices that can be used for standalone anal play or to try to hit the P-spot.
Penis sleeves
Not to be confused with masturbators, penis sleeves resemble extreme versions of ribbed condoms (although they don’t function as condoms at all).
“They help men who want to increase the girth and length of their penis during sex,” says Graveris. “They come with exterior texture details like the glans, frenulum, or veins that resemble a real penis. Some sleeves also come with a vibrating feature that provides stimulation for both partners during penetrative sex.”
Sex dolls
More commonly seen as bachelor party gags, life-size sex dolls still get used for their original purpose — providing pleasure through simulated oral, vaginal, or anal sex.
“You have anime sex dolls, inflatable sex dolls, and realistic sex dolls,” Graveris says. “The best part is that you can customize these dolls depending on your type, preferences, and needs.”
There’s a greater variety of sex toys designed for penis owners than ever before, including masturbation tools, cock rings, penis sleeves, and prostate massagers.
Both manually operated and mechanical toys can enhance sex play whether you’re partnering up or rolling solo. More sophisticated toys can run into the hundreds of dollars, but you can also find some fun toys to give your sex life a hand for under $20.
