CBD — short for cannabidiol — is an active ingredient in the cannabis plant.
Over the past decade or so, CBD’s therapeutic potential has amassed an army of faithful fanatics. And while research is young, there has been lots of research that supports these claims.
To get the effects of CBD, you can take a capsule or soft gel, swallow an oil, or rub it onto your skin. (You can also smoke it, but we’re a health website, so we don’t recommend that bc of the health risks). And an increasingly popular avenue is taking CBD in gummy form.
CBD gummies are yummy and discreet (they don’t reek or taste like weed) and super user-friendly (pre-dosed and ready to go).
Here’s what else you need to know about CBD gummies, plus our picks for the best gummies on the market.

Due to the limited government regulation of CBD products, there are a lot of iffy brands out there trying to win you over with wild marketing claims and not-so-awesome products — so it’s mega important to do your research on a brand before buying.
We have a rigorous vetting process that weeds out (pun definitely intended) the duds. We only recommend the highest quality products because we care about your health.
Every product on our list is:
- made by a company that provides proof of third-party testing by an ISO 17025-compliant lab
- made with U.S.-grown hemp that’s subject to certain agricultural regulations
- contains no more than 0.3% THC, according to the certificate of analysis (COA)
- has passing results for pesticides, heavy metals, and molds, according to the COA
We also took a close look at other factors like:
- indicators of user trust and brand reputation, such as:
- customer reviews
- whether the company has been subject to an FDA warning letter
- whether the company makes any unsupported health claims
- company certifications and manufacturing processes
- product potency
- overall ingredients

Lots of people go wild for CBD’s anxiety-reducing powers, which research actually backs up.
A review published in 2020 shows that terpenes play a big role in CBD’s ability to relieve anxiety, which is why we recommend these gummies from cbdMD.
We checked out the product COA and found that they contain eucalyptol and limonene, which might be able to help reduce anxiety and stress levels. This gives them an anxiety-reducing boost — and without THC, too.

CBDistillery Broad-Spectrum CBD Anytime Gummies

Current research shows that CBD can be an effective way to reduce certain types of pain, including nerve pain, inflammatory pain, and osteoarthritis. And so far, it looks like broad- and full-spectrum CBD are the best at getting the job done.
Since we’re such big CBDistillery fans, we had to recommend the brand’s broad-spectrum CBD gummy too — especially since we’ve tested this one for ourselves.
This one is the same dosage as the full-spectrum option, but it’s THC-free. When we took this one for a test run, we thought the tropical fruit flavor was delish. It had a little bit of that classic CBD aftertaste, but def not too bad.
Our tester has osteoarthritis in her lower back, so we were curious whether this would work for her. She usually takes prescription pain meds for her pain and has been looking for alternatives for finding relief. After a few days of using the gummies, she said she really noticed a difference in the severity of her pain.
It didn’t replace the need for daily movement, stretching, and physical therapy, but there was definitely an obvi reduction in symptoms that she’s super jazzed about. She’s planning on sticking with these gummies for continued pain relief.
Reviewers are satisfied too, saying these gummies have helped them sleep better and finally find the relief they’ve been looking for.
Pros
- effective and taste great, according to our testing and reviewers
- high quality product from a reputable brand
- 60-day money-back guarantee
- can save money with a subscription
Cons
- kinda pricey per bottle
- need to order multiple products to qualify for free shipping (orders over $75)
Best CBD + CBG gummies
BATCH CBD + CBG Gold Reserve Gummies
- Price: $64.99 ($0.03 per mg of cannabinoids)
- Type of CBD: full-spectrum
- CBD per serving: 50 mg (plus 25 mg CBG)
- Total CBD: 1,500 mg (plus 750 mg CBG)
- Number of gummies: 30
- COA: available online
You’re here because you’re looking for CBD gummies — but CBD’s cousin, cannabigerol (CBG), is a cannabinoid that shouldn’t be overlooked. Because CBG may have anti-inflammatory effects, it’s growing in popularity.
BATCH Gold Reserve Gummies offers 50 mg of CBD and 25 mg of CBG per gummy, a fairly strong dose. Their cannabinoids are extracted from Wisconsin-grown hemp. This gummy contains plant-based ingredients, making it appropriate for vegans. It’s flavored with natural fruit extracts, giving it a tangerine taste.
When it comes to value for money, this product ranks high. It costs roughly $0.03 per cannabinoid, which is cheap for a product that contains CBD and CBG. For added savings, try their subscribe-and-save option, which gives you 25% off your order.
Customer reviews rave about how effective and tasty these gummies are.
Pros
- great value for money
- potent concentration
- contains CBG
- can save money with a subscription
- vegan-friendly and gluten-free
Cons
- contains THC, which some might want to avoid
- might be too potent for beginners
- some reviews complain about customer service
Best full-spectrum CBD gummies
Charlotte’s Web CBD Gummies Daily Wellness
- Price: $44.99 ($0.05 per mg of CBD)
- Type of CBD: full-spectrum
- CBD per serving: 15 mg
- Total CBD: 900 mg
- Number of gummies: 60
- COA: available on batch reports page
Charlotte’s Web is a popular CBD brand with all kinds of CBD goodies. These daily wellness gummies have the lowest CBD dosage on our list (just 15 mg), so they’re a really good place to start for total newbies. If you tolerate 15 mg well, you can graduate to the 25 mg version later on.
They contain full-spectrum CBD, so you could benefit from the “entourage effect” with ’em. Basically, the entourage effect is a theory that says keeping all the terpenes, flavonoids, and other cannabinoids (including THC) in the cannabis plant together makes CBD more effective. That means these gummies have the potential to bring you some serious relief. (But again, it’s just a theory.)
There aren’t a ton of reviews on this product, but the people who have tried them say they work wonders and taste amazing.
Pros
- lower cost per mg of CBD
- lower potency is good for beginners (but can also buy 25 mg version)
- high quality product from a reputable brand
- effective and taste great, according to reviewers
Cons
- need batch number to access COA
- not a ton of reviews
Best THC-free CBD gummies
Soul Seriously Sour CBD Gummies
- Price: $65 ($0.09 per mg of CBD)
- Type of CBD: isolate
- CBD per serving: 25 mg
- Total CBD: 750 mg
- Number of gummies: 30
- COA: available online
If you like a little sour with your sweet, try Soul’s CBD Gummies in their Seriously Sour variety. This jar contains gummies in Blue Raz, Pink Lemonade, and Watermelon flavors. Vegan and gluten-free, these gummies contain CBD extracted from organically grown hemp.
These gummies are made with CBD isolate, which means they contain zero THC. While this is a plus for some people, others may prefer broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD so that they can benefit from the “entourage effect” — the idea that cannabinoids are more potent when they work with other cannabinoids.
Soul CBD also has a membership and rewards program that offers exclusive discounts, free shipping, and other benefits.
If you’re not a fan of sour candy but like Soul CBD, their CBD gummies come in nine other flavors — you’re spoiled for choice!
Pros
- zero THC
- vegan-friendly and gluten-free
- several flavor varieties
- rewards program
Cons
- no opportunity for entourage effect
Best CBD + THC gummies
Aspen Green Bliss Organic Full Spectrum CBD Gummies
- Price: $79.99 ($0.05 per mg of CBD)
- Type of CBD: full-spectrum
- CBD per serving: 50 mg CBD (plus 5 mg THC)
- Total CBD: 1,500 mg CBD (plus 150 mg THC)
- Number of gummies: 30
- COA: available online
Some folks like their CBD with a little kick. These tropical-flavored gummies from Aspen Green contain 50 mg CBD plus 5 mg THC per gummy.
THC is well-known for its ability to make us feel intoxicated (or “high”), but it also has a range of potential health benefits. If you’re new to THC or sensitive to cannabis, it’s good to take it easy on these — while 5 mg of THC is not super-strong, everybody’s tolerance is different.
Test them out in a safe environment if you’re not sure of your tolerance.
Vegan and gluten-free, their gummies are made from USDA-certified organic hemp grown in Colorado. Aspen Green’s products adhere to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and are created in an FDA-registered facility.
Although this price is already decent, Aspen Green also has a 60-day money-back return policy and a generous discount program offering 35–60% off to numerous groups of people. They also have a subscribe-and-save program.
Pros
- full-spectrum
- contains THC
- vegan-friendly and gluten-free
- generous discount programs
- subscribe-and-save program
- USDA-certified organic
- good value for price
Cons
- contains THC, which some might want to avoid
- may be too potent for beginners
Ready to shop? Here’s what to keep in mind when you’re shopping for CBD gummies:
CBD type
There are three diff types of federally legal CBD products that you can buy:
- Full-spectrum CBD: This kind of CBD contains all of the compounds that are naturally found in cannabis and hemp plants — including terpenes, flavonoids, and other cannabinoids (like THC — though never more than 0.3%).
- Broad-spectrum CBD: This type is basically the THC-free version of full-spectrum CBD. It still has terpenes and flavonoids, but all THC has been extracted.
- CBD isolate: This type has had all other compounds completely extracted, so it’s just pure CBD.
So, which do you pick?!
Well, there’s a theory called the “entourage effect” that states that keeping all of the compounds of the cannabis plant together (aka full-spectrum CBD) boosts CBD’s therapeutic effects, especially when it comes to anxiety.
There’s also tons of research that terpenes — which are the compounds that give cannabis (and every other plant, actually) their distinct smell — have therapeutic benefits of their own. So, even THC-free CBD with terpenes (aka broad-spectrum CBD) could have added benefits.
Other research says that CBD on its own is still effective for treating anxiety and pain — it just requires specific dosing that can be difficult to find without guidance from a doc.
tl;dr: The “entourage effect” states that full- and broad-spectrum CBD could have an advantage over CBD isolate, but isolate still gets the job done. If you’re comfy with a little bit of THC, go for full-spectrum. If not, broad-spectrum and isolate are still great options, too.
Ingredients
Because gummies are flavored and designed to taste good, they can contain all kinds of extra ingredients.
It’s up to you what to prioritize, but here are some things to consider:
- organic flavoring and sweeteners
- vegan options
- no additives, dyes, or fillers
- gluten-free
- allergen-free
Dosage
Since there aren’t official dosing guidelines for CBD and studies show lots of variation in effectiveness from person to person, we recommend working with a healthcare professional to find the right dosage for you.
If you do decide to experiment on your own, start small. For CBD that doesn’t contain THC (aka CBD isolate or broad-spectrum CBD) 25 mg is a good starting dosage. And for CBD that does contain THC (aka full-spectrum CBD), start at 10 mg.
Bear in mind that you might need to use a little more depending on your weight and/or the severity of whatever condition you’re trying to address.
If you use CBD daily for chronic issues like anxiety, you’ll want to gradually increase your dosage over time. For a detailed guide on increasing CBD intake, check out our article on finding the right dosage.
Unsupported health claims
If the CBD company you’re interested in makes wild claims about what its CBD can do, that’s no good.
CBD does have a bunch of evidence-backed benefits, so it’s OK if a company explains the benefits of CBD in general — but a company should not say that its specific CBD product can cure/treat any disease or condition.
Third-party testing
Always, always, always make sure that the company you’re buying from is ready and willing to provide an up-to-date (at least within the last year), unexpired certificate of analysis (COA). If they don’t provide one, that’s a huge red flag — so steer clear.
Even if they do provide a COA, always check that it matches the info on the product’s label. If the brand says the product contains 25 mg of CBD per serving, but the COA says it only contains 10 mg per serving, that’s some shady sh*t.
Lastly, make sure that COA lists results for contaminant testing (heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, and molds). This kind of testing is a big indicator of quality and is nonnegotiable.
CBD’s most proven usage is to treat certain forms of epilepsy. In fact, the only FDA-approved form of CBD is a prescription drug named Epidiolex, which is used to treat rare seizure conditions.
There’s also a great deal of research that shows that CBD has the potential to treat the following:
- anxiety
- depression
- pain and inflammation
- irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
It’s also shown to help peeps fall asleep faster.
When used topically, CBD also looks promising for treating skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
But remember — research on CBD is pretty new and ongoing, so what we know is constantly changing. If you’re planning on using CBD for the long term, it’s a good idea to keep up with CBD research and/or work with a healthcare pro to stay up-to-date on the latest.
CBD gummies are a pretty sweet way to find relief for all kinds of things — like mental health problems, pain, and sleep troubles. But again, research on it is new and ongoing, so it makes sense if you’re not 100% sold on trying them.
If you’re not sure if they’re right for you, get in touch with a healthcare pro to walk through the pros and cons of adding CBD to your daily routine. Here are a few things you might chat about:
Pros and cons of CBD gummies
Pros
- Research looks good: Research on how CBD can help folks with epilepsy, anxiety, sleep troubles, depression, IBS, and pain is promising AF.
- Yummy way to take CBD: Some peeps say CBD oils and tinctures tend to taste a lot like, well, weed. Gummies are typically the yummiest way to down CBD.
- Pretty inexpensive: Considering you can find CBD gummies at prices under $20, they’re a pretty cheap way to find relief for various symptoms.
- Don’t have to swallow pills: Gummies are similar to softgels and capsules in that they provide full-body relief and they’re pre-dosed. But if you hate swallowing pills, gummies are the way to go.
- Not legal everywhere: Though CBD is federally legal, some states have their own laws in place — so it’s possible you won’t be able to purchase it where you live.
Cons
- Not covered by insurance: CBD gummies aren’t covered by insurance, so you’ll need to fork over your own cash to find relief.
- Doesn’t work for everyone: Some people just don’t find the relief they’re looking for from CBD gummies.
- Not safe for pregnant or breastfeeding people:. There isn’t a ton of research on how CBD affects pregnant and breastfeeding people, but the FDA advises against using it at all for now.
CBD gummies are arguably the most user-friendly way to take CBD. All you need to do is pop ’em in your mouth, chew, swallow, and wait for the CBD to do its thing.
Research shows that it can take 30–60 minutes for edible CBD products to take effect, so make sure you wait at least that long before taking another one.
Gummies aren’t your only option for reaping the bennies of CBD. You can also try:
- Capsules and softgels: These are the most similar to gummies. They provide full-body effects and they’re pre-dosed, so they’re easy to take on the go.
- Oils and tinctures: Oils and tinctures are a good option for full-body effects, too — but they’re not pre-dosed. The nice thing about them, though, is that you can ingest them or use them topically.
- Topicals: Creams, lotions, balms, salves, and oils. You can use these for dry skin, pain, acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Just massage into your skin, and you’re good to go. They’re very targeted, so you can put them exactly where you want relief.
- Vaping and smoking: Again, we’re a health website, so we don’t recommend this because of the health risks that come along with vaping and smoking. But you’re a grown up and we trust you to make your own decisions. <3
CBD is generally considered safe and is well-tolerated by humans, but some people experience mild side effects such as:
- fatigue
- diarrhea
- changes in appetite
- changes in weight
If you take regular medication, talk with your doctor before using CBD as it’s been known to interact badly with certain medications.
Also, keep in mind that some research suggests that consuming CBD with high fat meals could increase the risk for side effects.
What do CBD gummies do?
CBD has a bunch of potential health benefits — like improving anxiety, depression, sleep, IBS, and pain. It’s also an approved treatment for epilepsy.
Some people see huuuuge improvements in symptoms from taking CBD, but others don’t have the same experience.
What are the side effects of CBD gummies?
Some common side effects include fatigue, diarrhea, changes in appetite, and changes in weight.
Your chances of experiencing side effects increase if you take CBD alongside a high fat meal, so keto lovers beware.
It can also interact with certain medications, so check with your doc before trying it.
Can I take CBD gummies every day?
Sure! CBD builds up in your system over time, so it’s possible taking it every day can increase the benefits. But it also means you’re more likely to experience side effects.
Where can I buy CBD gummies?
We recommend always buying directly from a CBD brand’s website (or brick-and-mortar store) rather than a third-party retailer like Amazon. In fact, we would recommend to *never* buy CBD on Amazon.
Buying products in person is also a great way to get tips from the people working at the store (and it’s always a bonus to support local businesses).
Does CBD make you high?
Nope, CBD itself doesn’t get you high.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the intoxicating cannabinoid found in cannabis — so it’s the one that gets you high. CBD isolate and broad-spectrum CBD shouldn’t contain any THC (but always double-check the COA to confirm!).
Full-spectrum CBD products do contain THC, but less than 0.3%, which isn’t enough to feel impaired unless you’re taking them at high enough doses. Full-spectrum CBD products can also cause you to fail a drug test.
When should I expect to feel it?
Research shows that it takes 30–60 minutes for CBD products to take effect. So make sure to wait at least that long until you decide to pop a second (or third) gummy.
CBD gummies are a user-friendly and (usually) delicious way to reap the benefits of CBD. But TBH, it’s kinda hard to know what products are high quality and which you should steer clear of.
Our list has been thoroughly vetted, so you can trust that our picks come from top-notch brands known for making good products. But if you plan to keep shopping, make sure to look for brands that are transparent about their products and processes (Psst: check out our “How we chose” section for specific tips).
Reading through customer reviews is also always a good idea to see how real people like the company’s products.
And once you find a product, make sure to start slowly and monitor for any side effects. Get in touch with your doc if you have any questions or concerns.
Enjoy, bestie!
Is CBD legal? The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC federally legal. However, CBD products containing more than 0.3% THC still fall under the legal definition of marijuana, making them federally illegal but legal under some state laws. Be sure to check state laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the FDA has not approved nonprescription CBD products, and some products may be inaccurately labeled.
